Why We Don't Compromise on Bearings

I realized early on that a classic rollerski is only as safe as its stopping mechanism. The rear wheel is a hostile environment. You have heat from friction, water, salt, and gravel attacking the internals constantly. If the one-way clutch fails, you lose your kick—or worse, you lose control on a hill.

We refused to use generic, unbranded bearings. The mechanics inside these wheels are delicate; fine wire bands and needle rollers must engage the axle instantly when you push backward. That requires microscopic precision. That is why I chose Schaeffler in Germany. Their HF1416-L564 needle bearing is the benchmark. It allows us to guarantee that when you kick, the ski locks in. No hesitation.

INA One-Way Bearing (HF1416-L564): The Engine of Your Kick

INA one-way bearing. The industry standard for uncompromising grip. German-engineered Schaeffler INA needle bearings ensure your classic rollerskis provide a “nail grip” connection with zero slip, regardless of the weather.

German Engineering for Nordic Conditions INA one-way bearing

We use the INA Schaeffler bearing because it handles the combined load of rotational force and impact better than any other we tested.

 • Instant Engagement: The internal needle clutch transmits torque immediately and unidirectionally. You get a distinct, solid kick every time.
 • Compact Durability: Fits standard 6mm/8mm axle setups (check your specific spacer requirements) and resists the internal heat that degrades cheaper bearings.
 • Universal Upgrade: While these are standard on FF skis, they are also the preferred replacement option for competitors such as IDT, SWIX, and SWENOR.
 • High Indexing Frequency: This means the bearing locks and unlocks rapidly without jamming, essential for double-poling and diagonal stride.

FAQ: One-Way Bearings

What rollerskis do these fit?

These HF1416-L564 bearings fit FF classic wheels, as well as most standard classic wheels from IDT, SWIX, and SWENOR. Always measure your existing bearing code to be sure.

Why is my rear wheel slipping?

Slipping usually means the internal needles are worn out or contaminated by grease and dirt. Replacing the one-way bearing restores the grip.

Should I put these in the front wheel?

Standard setup is rear-wheel only. However, some athletes install them on all four wheels for specific uphill training to increase resistance and technique focus.

Do I need special tools to change them?

Yes. You need a bearing puller/press. Never hammer them in. We sell the correct press tools to ensure you don't damage the wheel housing.

What is the service interval?

It depends on conditions. If you ski in wet or salty roads, clean and inspect them more often. If you feel "play" or slipping, replace them immediately.
